The 1st annual Ethnic Studies Summit will be held at Chapman University on Saturday, April 16th. Summit goals include beginning a dialogue on what Ethnic Studies would look like at Chapman University and supporting the district-wide implementation of Ethnic Studies in the two largest urban district in Orange County: Santa Ana Unified and Anaheim High School Unified.  The day brings together key organizers of the emerging Ethnic Studies movement in California together with students, parents, researchers, and district leaders. Workshops will cover such topics as What is Ethnic Studies, What Does Ethnic Studies Teaching Look Like, What Would a District-Wide Implementation of Ethnic Studies Entail, etc.

The event is hosted by the College of Educational Studies and is sponsored by the California Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education (CA-NAME), Los Amigos of Orange County, Ethnic Studies Now Coalition, the Paulo Freire Democratic Project among other organizations.
